EXTRA CARE FOR you

HOSPITAL ADMISSION

Your surgery will take place at St John of God Hospital Subiaco or Hollywood Private Hospital Nedlands. For information about your admission date and how to book your admission, please refer to your ‘Admission Guide’ and ‘How to Get Well’ brochure provided by the rooms.

St John of God Hospital Subiaco (SJOG Subiaco)
Within 24 hours of confirming your surgery date, you can register as a patient online sjog.org.au/myadmission to start your hospital admission process. SJOG Subiaco Hospital Admissions will phone you prior to your admission to confirm the details of your hospital stay.

Hollywood Private Hospital (HPH)
Within 24 hours of confirming your surgery date, you can register as a patient online mycare.ramsayhealth.com.au to start your hospital admission process. HPH Hospital Admissions will phone you prior to your admission to confirm the details of your hospital stay.

If you have laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery, you may only stay in hospital for 1 to 2 nights. However, for open abdominal surgery, you will most likely be in hospital for 3 to 4 nights. All patients recover differently, some quicker some slower, depending on your recovery it may sometimes be necessary for you to remain a bit longer. For patients requiring only minor procedures, these will be booked as day surgery, in which your admission will be early in the morning, and the procedure will be booked early so you may be discharged usually before lunchtime.

Any patient requiring major surgery will need to have pre-operative tests, to ensure you are attending the surgery at your optimal health, and to screen your blood in case the rare event a blood transfusion is required. These routinely include blood tests: full blood count, electrolytes and a group and hold. It is important that these blood tests are done less than 7 days prior to the operation, otherwise they will expire, and a repeat sample will be required closer to the surgery date.
